Armine Melkonyan, Ph.D.

Dr. Armine Melkonyan is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY 27428). She received a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She then earned a Master's and Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in Clinical Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in Los Angeles.

Dr. Melkonyan has had the opportunity to receive in-depth clinical training working with diverse populations. She completed her pre-doctoral training at Ventura Youth Correctional Facility, Southern California Counseling Center, and Occidental College—Emmons Health Center. Dr. Melkonyan went on to complete a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Rose City Center in Pasadena where she received specialized training in psychoanalytic theory and practice. Simultaneously, she completed another postdoctoral training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at Valley Community Clinic.

In addition to her clinical training, Dr. Melkonyan has many years of experience in community service and leadership. She has volunteered at non-profit agencies by advocating for survivors of sexual trauma, supporting domestic violence survivors, and mentoring youth from disadvantaged communities. During most of her graduate program, she has been an active leader by holding multiple leadership positions to voice the needs of the students and minority groups. Most recently, she has served on the board of directors at Rose City Center as the clinician representative.

Dr. Melkonyan specializes in working with patients who experience trauma and PTSD, relationship difficulties, loss and grief, anxiety, depression, and conflict due to cultural and spiritual factors. She works with adults, adolescents, couples, families and groups. In addition, she can provide psychotherapy in Armenian language.

Dr. Melkonyan is passionate about creating a deep emotional connection with each patient that she works with. She offers her warmth, curiosity and active presence in providing a safe space for self-exploration and meaning-making. Through collaborative and relational process, she helps her patients to heal from emotional pain, reach psychological growth and well-being, develop fulfilling relationships, and have long-lasting change in maladaptive behaviors.
